    Hi,

A big congratulations to you! After all that, I'm not sure if a motorcycle school could teach you any more.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

      WRONG!!!

Until you decide to sell the bike and sadly watch the next owner take it away, a bike is ALWAYS a work in progress.

On your 'celebration' ride, you will find something that needs to be adjusted.
Then you will find something else that can be tweaked.
Face it, the process never ends.

They tend to last forever with just a tiny amount of care, and in a lot of ways they are better than the new stuff so yes there are still a lot of GSes around.

well the first ride was fun and scary... took it around the block still no where near perfect.. carb 2 made a bit of a hissy noise and bogged down with throttle. im thinking the floats are a little low causing it to over flow a bit.. kinda spitty. going to adjust tonight and see what happens. had to put my hand slightly over the air intake to thin out the venturi had it up to 20 its the farthest its moved in the 7 months ive owned it... orderd a colortune it should be in about wed or thurs and basscliff the school has taught me technical terms other than "take that thing twist it to here and it should do this" lol

                gerrr

well i got the K&L kits and installed them as to basscliffs site set the float heights and used the colortune and when i looked threw the spark plug it looked blue with the choke on??? it should be yellowish due to rich mixture with 2 turns out on the fuel screw and after it warms up its running rough and stalling.. im thinking of getting that bowl gauge to check the level, or going richer on the screw what do u guys think.. and every once in a while im still getting a hissy noise and a puff of white smoke out threw the intake but no pop

Are you running the stock air filter assembly?

Are you letting it warm up good? It sounds like a lean condition but also a cold engine could puff out the intake like that if you are trying to rev it up. Make sure the engine is well up to operating temp before considering any adjustments.
Covering the intake with your hand made that cylinder richer.

well at the moment i dont have the airbox on it but yes i will be useing the stock airbox. i talked to the guys at my local suzuki dealer he always starts his fuel screws 3 1/2 turns out since the gas we use today is leaner than back in 1980 due to ethanol. I did this and the bike fired up with choke. which sucks due to it being freezing out. took the choke off idled a bit rough turned the idle screw in a bit ran ok at 2k RPM. blurped the gas it bogged and revved up when released. let it run some more, up too temp turned the idle screw to make it stay between 1.5k and 2k rpm, no puffing. great it ran good revved well. took it out of the garage and clicked it into gear i got no more than a quarter turn if that and it bogged down with a little pop out the intake like b4.. i know it would run badly with the airbox off but this bad?

Yes, that bad! I'm surprised it moves at all.

Please put the airbox on (with fully sealed filter element and side panels) so you can amaze yourself.

Must have some type of restriction on the air box side. Mine ran like crap when I brought it home with no air box. I couldn't believe how much difference it made. I think it need the restriction to create the vacuum to raise the slides which delivers more fuel. No restriction = no extra fuel = lean.

And when there's not, just wait 6 months because your clutch cable will break, or you'll get a mysterious short, or the battery will crap out, or ...
