    Jon,

As far as what all other models use the same sender as yours:
I looked up the part number on Babbits (they use Zuki stock factory part numbers) and then put that number back into thier "quick look up" (which can serve as a cross refereence).

This is what I found. But then again, all it would take is just different wire harnes connector type to be a different part number.

So, 80-83 850GL, 80-81 1000GL, 82-83 1100GL, Not anys Gs (tanks different size, taller), not any other engine size.

But you are going to fix yours, right !
We are being positive, right !

Ok, holy cow, THANK YOU!!!! I expected some help and pointing me in the right direction and I know there is alot of very talented and smart guys here. But the one thing I did not expect was for someone to actually go and do the research for me!! And then post it for me and everyone!!! This Is AWESOME!!!! Thank you Redman!!!!

An update and I hope the solution!!!

I have taken the sender apart. Found the arm and resistor. Cleaned them adjusted them so they are always in contact and still no reading on the meter (yes the good meter). I broke out with my oldman glasses and I think I found the suspect. It seems the tiny wire that wraps around and forms the resistor is not connected to the wire connected to the chassis. Last ditch effort before I go and shop for a new one is to try and solder that wire back together. I cant see any other thing wrong with this unit. They are very simple in design and function. I wont be able to get to it until this weekend (night shift SUCKS)but I will post my results.

Thanks again for everything you guys are great!!

      Jon

        Jon,

You can verify both of those things with the meter.

There, good. See, I thought you could figure it out with just a little understanding.

The subject of the gas level sender is something I have been wanting to look into, becuase my gauge on my current GK doesnt read like I think it should.
[And I have the time now, being off work.]

When I got the part number on the Babbits web site I got the idea that a new one is no longer available, it did not have a price listed for the sender unit. Did have for the gasket.
And BikeBandit definitly indicates that it is discontinued.

I happen to see on ebay at the moment there is a used sender unit for a real cheap buy-it-now of $5 and reasonable shipping.

It is listed as for 80 GS850, only statment about condition is "rusty, from parts bike". I interprete that to mean "had not seen it operate. And not going to bother to check anything." And I suppose for $5 it would be a lot to ask to have him do an ohm check. Doesnt say if 850G or 850GL. I asked seller question about if from a 850G or 850GL. Sellers responce:

Hi Dave, good question, this would have been the GS850GL as the frame number is GS850-7----- not the GS850G (GS850-1-----) Thank you. Korey

Nice that he gave an explaination of how he determined that it was a GL, but I am not aware of this frame number situation.
