GS 850 Driveshaft
Hi guys I'm fitting an engine to my 850 GS and when trying to attach the driveshaft to the back og the engine the flange does not marry up to the one at the back of the gearbox. It seems to be about 1mm out. Did Suzuki chane the fittings on the later engines? Cheers

Hi,
Yes, things were changed slightly between earlier and later model years. (I think '82-'83 are different from the '79-'81.) You'll need the drive line that matches the engine you're installing. I can't go into more detail because I have no direct experience. But someone should be along shortly.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

Yes the bolt pattern changed 81? So any of the later 850 or any 1000/1100 should fit. I have an extra somewhere if you can't find one

Agreed with all the above.
Can you tell us what year GS850 you're working on and what year the donor engine is from, or is that classified information?1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
2005 KLR685, Aztec Pink - Turd II.3, the ReReReTurdening
2015 Yamaha FJ-09, Magma Red Power Corrupts...

Hi Guys the bike is a 79 model however I've put a different engine in it not sure what year but obviously post 81 due to different bolt pattern on driveshaft. I've taken the connection of the back of 79 engine and put it on the later one so my drive shaft will now fit. Just another example of one step forward and one step back when building this bike. Thanks again for your advice guys.
