    Carb Question

I finally got my o-ring kit and went to clean the carbs on my 1978 gs550E and the first thing I noticed was that there was no small connection hose on the vents between # 3 and #4 carbs. Shouldn't they be connected? The second thing was that there was no spring on the pilot air jet. Can you use a spring from a pilot fuel jet for that or should I try to find a spring? If so does anyone have an idea where to get them. Thanks for all your help and I hope this thing runs when I get done but then again it didn't run before I started.Anyway Happy Thanksgiving guys.

Do you mean pilot fuel SCREW and pilot air SCREW? If so, yes, you need a spring on each adjustable screw in order to keep the screw from turning due to vibration.

Regarding the connection hoses, yes, you need a small piece of rubber to connect the vents between #3 and #4. Any old piece of fuel hose should do.

BTW, I have a box of spare parts for VM22 carbs like those on your 550. Please detail exactly what you need and I'll check to see if I can help you out.

Sorry about that it is the pilot air SCREW that didn't have a spring on it. Can you use one off a pilot fuel screw on it or is the tension on it not right to use?

I believe the springs are different size. I trust you are going to fully disassemble the carbs and dip them right? If you take apart one of the other carbs you can see the difference in the spring size.

I did notice that the air screw spring is a little shorter and a little stiffer than the fuel screw but do you think it will hold the screw to keep it from moving when I put them back together. If not is there anywhere I can buy just the air screw springs? Thanks for your time.
