On the '83 750's and '85 700's, you have to remove the engine from the frame first or, cut the airbox assembly up to remove it. You will probably have to do that also...

You have to remove the swingarm on the '83-'86 GS550E/ES.

I got mine out (81 gs400) but it took alot of force - way more than I expected and almost all that I had. Can't remember if I pulled it out from the top or the front, but getting it back in was 50% easier.

If you don't need to, don't bother, otherwise just twist it till it looks like it'll go and use brute force.

How about filling it with boiling water to make it softer? If you just want it clean, this may kill 2 birds er sumpthin...

Hard on him? I don't think anyone was. He did get the answer he needed. And now we all know that you have to remove the swingarm to get it out.

OK,sorry ,I never heard of removing the swingarm to get the air box out or taking the motor out of the frame or cutting the box up.I had my air box out of my 1100 a few times now and it was not fun.I thought you guys were cutting on him for being a newbie. My appoligies.

I cut mine in half with a Sawzall..crude but effective

Without removing the engine there is no other way.
