want to remove shifter cover

I want to remove the cover so i can remove the clear coat and polish it.Is there a gasket there?will it leak oil?

No gasket and no oil, just make sure you use an impact driver (they type you hit with a hammer) to take out the phillips head screws.

I don't think it will.I had mine off and it just covers the counter sprocket.But my bike is an 1100

Take it from another 850 owner (times THREE ), you can safely remove that cover and there is no gasket involved.

Yup, go ahead and take it off.

But why not change the gear oil while you're in there? It's eeeeeeeasy.
