Oil strainer

Depends on the history of the bike (very often happens if mechanics use gasket sealant too liberally ). Lack of oil changes also contributes. In my book it's always a must do (to remove and clean) just in case - I've seen some pretty gummed up examples in the past that's for sure.79 GS1000S

Seems that a plugged strainer is always the fault of the Previous Owner.
When you get a "new" bike, one of the items to check should be the oil strainer.
Once you are assured that it is in good shape, given the regular maintenance that you will be giving it, it should never need it again.

Silicone will to it but not much otherwise.
If you do have a looksy don't lose that o-ring.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
