All of this just goes to show you why you really need to put the bowls on, turn the carbs over, put gas in them and measure the fuel level.

Thanks to all the respondents. I had a feeling there'd be a few weighing in on this topic.
WillieCommon sense has become so uncommon that I consider it a super power.

That's why it says to measure without the gasket. You are measuring from the little ledge where the gasket sits.

It looks like the tip of the caliper is suppose to rest where the gasket does. The lines that are super imposed on the picture look a little mis-leading because it touches the bottom of the caliper but also crosses like it's at the top of the edge ridge towards the outside of the carb. By the way I looked at my caliper and it does have that part that extends out like that. I just never used it like that before LOL !!!

Wait a minute am I looking at this wrong ? Is there a edge on the inside of the carb wall just inside of where the gasket lays ? I'd go check my carbs but right now with the wind chill it's about 2 degrees outside where I live. My garage is not attached and it's at the back of my property. Call me a wimp.....but......I ride motorcycles not snowmobiles. That's just how I roll.

Ok, just to make sure no one accuses me of not being manly enough I put my Dora the Explorer long johns on and went out into the cold to put this to rest. I believe the attached pic shows exactly where the caliper should be placed.
