whats that coil goop?
There is some goop sprayed over my coils, like a wax or something. Is it to seal out moisture like we used to use mom's VO5 hairspray for?

The photo would show a very dirty coil. Not sure what material was sprayed on the coils from new but it sure does attract dirt.
I used mineral spirits and a tooth brush to clean the coils on my 1000S. The trigger wires like to break off where they enter the coil so watch the wire carefully. These wires are epoxied to reinforce them so on my coils I gave them a fresh coat since the insulation was broken and it was just a matter of time before the wire failed. Something to check while you are cleaning up the coils.Ed

Maybe Suzuki was aware of the Kawasaki coils cracking at that time!

Tectyl wax base clear seems to be it, or similar
Brilliant, ill probably leave them alone then but check on the terminal isssue when I re-assemble.
my referance to using VO-5 was the old hairspray cure for old plug wires and moisture arcing on and in the cap on old beater volkwagons and such. Good thing our moms used to fix thier head into an impregable hair-helmet with space age shelac-in-a-can that could withstand hurricains, typhoons and probly bullets too.
clearly i asked the right people about this too, thanks
