    85 Suzuki GS1150ES HELP! HELP!!

    Hello, I recently purchased a ( Owners Manual ) on EBay. I realized later that I needed the ( Service Manual ) instead. I was wondering if anyone could be of any assistance here. I am looking for ( Torque Specs ) on the rear shock bolts. I am replacing my rear shock on my GS1150ES with another stock shock that is in better condition then mine. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I bet pretty much all models are ballpark the same. Use the search feature you'll probably find it. The biggie is not to punch through the acorn nut by over torquing.

      You can normally go by bolt size and most manuals show that. I have a 1150 manual so if you can show me which bolts (using microfice) I can look it up later.

        My Suzuki GS1150 manual shows:
        both upper nut and lower nut have the same torque.
        48-72 Nm
        4.8-7.2 kg m
        34.5-52.0 lb-ft

          Geez I thought it was on fire.
          1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
          1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

            That sounds WAY too tight... my 850GLX calls for 14.5 - 21.5 lb-ft.

            I think 50 lb-ft may snap the stud !!

            The shock eye-bushing is just pushed onto the stud on the top - the nut only keeps it from wiggling off, it doesn't have to be that tight.

              I would just use two, maybe three, fingers on the end of a greasy breaker bar.

                Which fingers? What sort of grease on the breaker bar? Are we talking a 2 ton floor jack handle? Or a 3 ton? How long since you had your elbow calibrated? I get mine done every few weeks or so.

                  I am now wondering if my manual is correct.

                  Does anybody out there have a Suzuki GS1150 manual that the can look up the rear shock torque and report back?

                    just to confirm that your manual is correct...
                    yes, it is right..suzuki factory manual puts it at 48-72 Nm
                    It is a full floater, there is no stud to snap, 2 bolts and nuts.
                    FYI the 3 long bolts through the cushion rod, lever and bracket (linkage) are 84-100 Nm , kinda the same with the 2 short bracket bolts 70-100 Nm

                            Thanks for your input on this, as you all have been very helpful. Thank you Steven and GS1197 for taking the time to look up the torque specs for me. I was just about to PM Steve and ask what kind of grease does he recommend and ask Turtleface where he would recommend going to have my elbow calibrated? I just have one last question, if it says the torque specs are between 34.5 -52.0 lb.ft what you you guys recommend? 34.2 ? 52.0? or somewhere in between?? Thanks again guys and thank you GS1197 for posting the page for me. Very helpful!!!
