I think so Larry... the pre-1980 750 engines were different.
Go to Babbits & cross-reference the p/n & see all the models & years it will fit.'85 GS550L - SOLD

I'm getting some conflicting info for them on the parts sites. I found a nice price on the rings but between the superceded part numbers and years.....I'm not sure.Larry D

Hey Larry, This site you gave me http://alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm shows the same part number for the rings in all of those years. I didn't check the Kats I just checked the models similar to yours. Part #12140-31311. Hope that helps.

.
This site listed part # 12140-31311 piston set for $24.63.
It also listed part # 12140-31310 piston set, which superceded #12140-45410 for $16.44.
If I'm not mistaken....#12140-31311 superceded #12140-31310 which superceded #12140-45410. At first, I thought the *-31311 was .5mm oversized, but that not the case according to other parts sites.
I know, alot of numbers......you can see why I was confused.
Anyway I ordered the $16.44 rings X 4. +- $84.00 shipped. We'll see how they work when they arrive.Larry D

According to Babbitts the 12140-45410 is a std size piston ring set. Fits 80-83 750 engines. Oversize is indicated by an 050 or 100 on the end of the above part number.

FWIW, I've noticed that the piston ring part numbers are quite often higgeldy-piggeldy on the various parts web sites. Don't know why, but you have to to some digging and checking to sort it out.
The only way I ever sorted it out was to refer to my original microfiche.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

What was throwing me off is that they had two different prices for the same ring.......although they are for different bikes from different years, it's still the same piston ring.
As long as I'm here.....would any 67mm piston ring work as long as the piston has the same bore.....say, from a Kaw or Honda or whatever ? I'm guessing they could have a different thickness of the ring.......Larry D

Might be a thickness issue, might be a slightly different profile, might have a bevel on one corner, might ..., might ... .
