I am adjusting the valve clearances and found the gasket under the side cover was bad. I found light oxyidation near the pick up,can I spray electrical cleaner on all the parts without taking them apart, any other ideas on cleaning it or is it even neccesary, it looks like everything is sealed. I am making a new gasket for the cover. I don't want to cause any damage to the electrical stuff, so I thought it best to ask.

Are you saying the pick up plate is rusted? no its white and looks like oxidation, very light and only where the gasket broke.Comment

will have to wait until morning for a picture. That is what it looks like but It looks like a galvanised piece of metal. I got side tracked working on 17 year old daughters car, amazing what brake shoes look like when they have been eating the rotor.
only 2 rotors ,2 calipers,1 set of pads.60. all together. almost forgot 20. for plug wires.PO put cut them and crimp them yourself wires on, car was running bad.Maybe I will get battery cables put on my truck tomorrow, nothing like laying in the snow working on something.
