Bolt is out of Cylinder Head

Took my gs750 cylinder head to a guy who machined the broken off header bolt out . So, I'm nearly ready to put everything back together. I have all the necessary gaskets, and I plan to follow the manual. Any advice or precautions that I should take?

You can NOT clean all of the parts TOO much! Ray.

Double & triple check the positions of both cam sprockets against the ignition timing mark when re-installing the timing chain. It has to spot on, not "close enough".

Good one. Told my tale of whoa of having to set them 3 or 4 times several times on here. Use vise grips, and "close" doesn't work. Must be spot on the marks.

Check them again when you think you're done too. I thought I was careful while assembling mine. Turns out I was wrong. Twice. But then, I was in a hurry, and it was late, and, and... It looks like such a simple procedure. It is, I suppose, but the cam chain has a sneaky way of jumping teeth until everything is done.

My mistake was counting pins between the cam marks. For some reason, I kept skipping the pin directly over the "2" mark and called the next pin "1". WRONG. The pin directly over the #2 mark is counted as "1" and the pin directly over the #3 mark on the intake cam is your target number (it's different for different engines).

Even after doing this a few times, I still go back a couple of times to re-count the pins.

If you do miscount the pins like Steve, go one step farther and make sure the arrow on the exhaust cam is pointing above the gasket surface. This way the bike will still run but just poorly enough to drive you wacko. The Previous owner of my bike set it this way. Works on the 650, not sure on the others. Imagine my joy when checking valve clearance and find this.

Back on topic, be careful tightening the cams holder bolts, definitely tighten in a crisscross pattern, little by little. It was very easy to strip these threads out. Use antisieze on the exhaust bolts. Take your time and clean everything spotless. Head gaskets go on dry, valve cover gaskets with a smear of grease or oil no Silicone.

I just found my #3 header had bolt snapped off while riding. (1979 gs850).
I guess I am about to embark on your journey. Any thoughts or guide's as to the best way to go about this? Or just dive in.
