    4th gear tranny noise

So, I have put maybe 200kms on the new 1100 engine, and it makes a squealing, whining noise in 4th gear, and louder the more throttle I give it. All other gears are fine and it shifts through all gears fine. I do not know why the cases were split on this engine, maybe there was a shifting problem or something The PO didnt say why or what was done to it, even if he could remember (24 years ago). Anyone know of a certain problem with 4th gear on these? I plan to run it for a few more hundred and if the noise hasnt gone away, then pull the bottom off and see what the problem is.

    I know, I have a loud noise in my 82 GS650 G also.

It only does it in 3rd gear.

It sounds just like the gear is LOUD, kinda hard to describe it.
Sort of sound high, but clunky and low too.

1100E trannys are usually butter smooth; Most noises come from the clutch. Sounds like a problem not fixed with miles.

Well, I have the engine apart, what should I be looking for on the gears?
The engine only has 38k km on it. Third and fourth gears look pretty normal to me. Could it be the main gears that hold the shaft? I would think all gears would make noise then.
Would the noise have to be coming from the teeth themselves? They look ok and there are no sharp edges on them

Check the shifter forks for wear and straightness and the drums for wear.
