Removing Shock on the 83GS750 or 700 models

Is there an easy way to do it? I'm thinking jack it up on the frame (no centrestand), release the bolts & pull it out from the bottom... Just want to confirm there is clearance.

I want to try a spring change. The stock Ducati 900 shock/ spring I have is a bit stiff even with no preload so I think I'm going to try the stock spring on the Ducati Shock.
The stock shock is hydraulic preload adjustable & as such only move about 3/4" max. I have about 2" of preload adjustment available on this ducati shock so I think it might work out just right with the stock spring & an inch or so of preload.

Yes... I did mine the same, everything else was not really attached.

Sure a few people here have removed just the shock though.....

I've put a block of wood between the top of the tire and the fender. Remember that the shock is what holds the back of the bike up.
I helped lift a sportster off of one poor guys arm after he removed both shocks with no support, to put struts on at the drags last summer. (AHDRA race) Broke his arm in two places when the bike dropped trapping him between the fender and tire.

Make sure it is supported for sure.

If I remember correctly, the shock will come out, but if completely removed say to put it in a press to remove the spring, the dampener/preload adjusters have to either be worked through the cushion lever brackets in a certain way or the bone/pivot has to come out.

OK, that's one to look out for then. I guess I'll give it a go..
