Parts # 23 & # 27 are rubber and also not a bad idea to replace IMHO. Check the hose # 30 for your gas smell, I had one of mine go bad (# 23 ?) and it developed a very small leak from the tube.

Either way I'm not finding a leak so I'm confused with #30 hose. But did you mean #23? Which to me doesn't look like a hose on your link but perhaps a diaphram??

I'd do the carb maintenence and check out petcock to see if you may have a seeping gasket or something similiar.Larry D

Thanks Larry and everyone else that has given me alot of great ideas. Sounds like I have my work cut out for me. Mr. Bwringer also gave me a small list on the phone to try as well for me to cypher through . I'll start out tomorrow and see where it leads. And I'll do my best to keep all of you posted. Thanks again everyone.

So many of you have been so helpful about this I wanted to do a follow up. This last Sunday (before the Colts game) I let it run and rode for about 15 miles and back to the garage. Smell wasn't as bad but still noticible. I checked for smell in crank case and nothing. Plugs looked good. I could also see part of a fresh gasket from the valve covers so I am hoping the PO actually did do the valve adjusting but if not I'll look into that more later. BWringer told me that theres a connection between 2 and 3 carb ( I think he said) and there could be a crack there causing a small enough leak but evaporating before I can actually see it. I went to a friends house and got his telescoping adjusting mirror that he uses on his wrenching and still can't find anything there yet.
On a side note this last summer my fan burned up LOL, so i'll wait a bit before starting it up again to look more into it. It seems winter is back and too nasty out to ride. BWringer is also going to come over soon and see what he can find. Let him make a to-do list for me.
I'll post more when I can, thanks again everyone.
