Has your bike's petcock ever been replaced?

Holler if you need a hand!
Brian, to my knowledge the PO stated that the bike is in tip top running condition in his description on EBay. Which is why I chose to bid on it. When I got to his location (near Cleveland, Ohio) he had several other Zukes he was working on. I inspected the bike and ran it, rode it and it did not seem to be anything other than what he described. Now I will admit that my knowledge isn't what yours or others is when it comes to this but I was happy with the bike and bought it. Since then it hasn't ever not been what he stated it to be. So to answer your question I don't kknow if it has or hasn't. In fact I'm not sure what has been done and not done. All I know is the bike is running (in my opinion) in great shape without any leaks found anywhere. The smell is the first concern that I have come across since owning it.

If you are unsure and plan on keeping the bike I would go ahead and replace the petcock. If you replace it while you are "in there" you might as well get parts # 16 and # 18. Parts # 23 & # 27 are rubber and also not a bad idea to replace IMHO. Check the hose # 30 for your gas smell, I had one of mine go bad (# 23 ?) and it developed a very small leak from the tube.

Isn't #30 the drain hose from flooding?? Wouldn't that also show gas stains and or gas pools on the floor. Either way I'm not finding a leak so I'm confused with #30 hose. But did you mean #23? Which to me doesn't look like a hose on your link but perhaps a diaphram??

(Is there a figurine here that shows massive overload??)

#23 is a rubber gasket deal that seals the gas gauge mechinism. #30 is an overflow.

I'd do the carb maintenence and check out petcock to see if you may have a seeping gasket or something similiar.

Thanks Larry and everyone else that has given me alot of great ideas. Sounds like I have my work cut out for me. Mr. Bwringer also gave me a small list on the phone to try as well for me to cypher through . I'll start out tomorrow and see where it leads. And I'll do my best to keep all of you posted. Thanks again everyone.

So many of you have been so helpful about this I wanted to do a follow up. This last Sunday (before the Colts game) I let it run and rode for about 15 miles and back to the garage. Smell wasn't as bad but still noticible. I checked for smell in crank case and nothing. Plugs looked good. I could also see part of a fresh gasket from the valve covers so I am hoping the PO actually did do the valve adjusting but if not I'll look into that more later. BWringer told me that theres a connection between 2 and 3 carb ( I think he said) and there could be a crack there causing a small enough leak but evaporating before I can actually see it. I went to a friends house and got his telescoping adjusting mirror that he uses on his wrenching and still can't find anything there yet.

On a side note this last summer my fan burned up LOL, so i'll wait a bit before starting it up again to look more into it. It seems winter is back and too nasty out to ride. BWringer is also going to come over soon and see what he can find. Let him make a to-do list for me.

I'll post more when I can, thanks again everyone.
