    New Rectifier fitting different years

Hey ya'll. It's come time for me to draw on ya'lls expertise on yet another matter. My bike is an 82 GS1100GK. I need a rectifier bc mine finally let go. (At least it narrows down the varieety of things that COULD be wrong now.. lol)

Anyway, there is an item right now on ebay for a new rectifier ( ricks motorsports) that is supposed to be for a 79-81.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EWAX%3AIT#shId

will this fit my bike? I have no problem shuffling the pins if needed. I just need to know fast. THANKS!!!

Yes, it would probably work. If you happen to miss that auction, contact GSR member "duaneage". He usually has some Honda units that he has tested and has for sale. They are usually about $40, but it's been a while since I have checked.

Regulator/rectifiers from other bikes can be used as long as they are the right type.

Matchless made a thread with a list of ones that would work and what bike they come from.

funny i was JUST looking at that thread! lol.. By looking at the difference in the current handling capabilities, Id be better off getting one of the higher amp handlers yes? or should i get a brand new rec that fits a 79-81. considering i have an 82?

You can get an FET type R/R for about $40 if you don't mind fabbing up your own wiring. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I don't mind fabbing my own wiring at all! In fact, I prefer it more often then not. That way I always know what is what and what is where. All I need now is the diagram to do so. I have the website to buy the connectors for it.

Which website do you have for the connectors? I have purchased mine from Eastern Beaver. In fact, I got the whole harness, which is really nice.

That R/R has male spade terminals inside those plug enclosures. It’s a simple matter to crimp some female spade terminals on your harness and then push them onto the male spades on the R/R. Filling the cavity with silicone afterwards will waterproof the connection if you are worried about it – just make sure to get some silicone that is compatible with wiring – NOT regular hardware store silicone which is acidic.

Those Eastern Beaver harness are super nice but make sure you have room for the plugs first – they wouldn’t work for my application.

They work GREAT on the 850, with the R/R under the battery box.

I learned long time ago it's much easier to work on the R/R if you just remove the battery box.

                      R/R installed, waiting for connectors.

                      Here it is, installed.

By the way, I have started looking into other models of FET R/R that might work, but had to leave home before getting a chance to work on the project.
I have everything I need at home except ME.

indeed, that's EXACTLY why I found a good 10BA... My question isn't if it will fit. My question is merely this: how MUCH better is the 12AA? or how much WORSE is visa versa?
                          LMFAO!

now we have been reduced to playing "Where's Waldo?" in the forums have we bro? hahaha

Well I thing the specific technical advantage the FA-012A has over the FA-010BA is that it is "prettier".
