cleaning foam pods
I tried to search this here and also googled. The PO had foam Unifilter pods on my 1100. The best I could find was at the unifilter site and it said rinse with mineral turpentine. I guess that's maybe a synthetic turpentine clone like turpatine. Is that how you guys would do it or does anybody have any tricks. Maybe any other solvents? I guess you don't want to get to rambunctious squeezing the foam or you could break the bond with the rest of the filter. Mine have the chrome pieces on the end away from the carbs. Also, have I read here that regular motor oil could be used for reoiling if you don't overdo it? Thanks Jim M1983 GS 1100 Guided Laser

I use paint thinner and regular motor oil. When oiling, blot out excess using paper towel. No need for fancy solvents or oils. Keep it simple.Ed

On my very old dirt bikes, I just use simple green, 409, fantastic or
any other soapy degreaser and rinse in hot water followed by cold water.
Re-oil with motor oil and squeeze.
Blot with paper towels to remove excessive oil and install.

Thanks for the tips guys. Finally got a day to get this straightened out. It's great that there are so many here to help out reluctant wrenches like me.1983 GS 1100 Guided Laser
