intake boot question

I should know this already, but I haven't seen any markings on my intake boots to indicate they are for a specific side. I have a 79 GS850 and a 78 GS1000 and I'm wondering if the intake boots are different or all the same? I looked at all of them and they don't have any markings or seem any different. Appreciate someone clearing this up. Thanks.

Look for a little notch on the boots , indentation on the air box

The GS 1000 has 2 sides - the vacuum tap has to face to the outside and down

I would guess the 850 would be the same

I get the vacuum idea but I thought there might be something more to it than that. Thanks for the heads up with the airbox notch.

The same intake boots are used on both your 850 and 1000. Also the four intake boots are exactly the same, there is no left and right, otherwise they would be stamped L or R. So just put them on with the vacuum port facing outwards. Other models have them handed, but not either of your bikes.

I just replaced the intake boots on my 79 gs850 GN. All are the same. But one thing that people keep bringing up is the fact that the vacuum ports need to be down and out. On my bike, the ports are located on the actual manifolds that the boots bolt onto. I had no issues. I just through them on before even reading up on the tips and tricks and it made a HUGE different in throttle response!
