    Name this engine number: GS850-123460

What bike did this engine come off of? I have an 82 gs850g, but I know this engine did not come with the bike. I need to nail this down.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I'm having trouble locating the engine numbers for the '81 and '82 model years. I know the '80 model year started with GS850-116520.

    My usual sources:

Z1 Enterprises specializes in quality Motorcycle parts for Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha Classic Japanese motorcycles from the 1970's and 1980's.

Here I am again, being of no help at all but in a very helpful way.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

all you probably need to know is if it's pre- or post- '82 engine, no?

you could tell that by the number of bolts on the cam cover and the size and placement of crankcase bolts. easier still is to have a look at the clutch cover - newer models have the clutch cable fixture at the cases as oposed at the cover on the earlier models.

        Hi,

Maybe this will help. If your valve cover bolt hole pattern looks like this, it's an '82+ (OEM# 11173-45010,45011,45011-H17):

        The bolt pattern below is for '81 and earlier (OEM# 11173-45002, 45003, 11173-45004, 45004-H17):

I've narrowed it down to an 80/81 due to the clutch cover. It has an extra bulge where the kick start used to be and clutch cable fixture. I guess there is no difference between the 80 and 81, so this might be the end of the road for my search... Thanks.

the only difference i've found between 80 and 81 is in the clutch.
i can't quite remember what it was.
i think either an extra plate or something to do with that piano wire at the back or the wave washer, lol.
anyway, the whole clutch assembly is interchangable so no probs
