threaded stainless brake lines - do they need teflon tape?

Greetings GSers,

I am installing a sweet Russell brake line and the connections from the line to the banjo fittings is threaded. I assume that this thread should have a thin wrap of teflon tape, or thread locker, or thread sealer or something else?
Anyone know?

Nothing, they are designed to be used dry.
The soft crush washer is the seal, not the threads.

there is no crush washer between this fitting and the threaded hose.

Jagir, the tapered end of your fitting does not need teflon tape. But it must be matched with a tapered female. These are called AN fittings. Matched together, they should not leak.

In the link you provided, the threads are different. That flat ended fitting is a pipe thread. Called NPT down here in the US of A. Pipe threads do require thread sealant. Either teflon tape of pipe dope. Careful not to get any in the line end.

If you notice on the link you gave, the ends are different.. yours has a taper at the end, and it is this taper that seals inside the fitting on the pipe.. in the same way a conical spark plug fits.

You don't need any teflon tape on the threads...

sorry about the mix-up, couldn't find the camera and I tried to let google images find the visuals for me.

Both female and male are conical (like the first picture) AN which from the sounds of things, don't need any tape. How about thread locker

I really don't want my brakes to mess up/vibrate loose/spray brake fluid when I'm riding, so I just want to be extra thorough.

A drop of oil on the threads is all you need, just keep it away from the conical end. Teflon tap on the threads will allow them to turn smoothly as well but it isn't needed to make for a leak proof seal.

it is not necessary but I do run the teflon tape just as a precaution due to vibration and stress.
