ok so i have a wiring problem with an 82 GS450T(go figure)
i have some wires that i found coming out of the ignitor that werent connected thus my starting and charging problems...the reason i just dont connect them back is because the colors on the not so factory wiring dont match up after the connectors(thank the previous owner) but as it stands the 3 wires coming out of the ignitor are black/red, black/yellow, and yellow....but the only other three wires i have to choose from are green/white, orange/white, and brown....i know the orange/white go to the positive on the coils but i have no idea which to connect to which wires...please help

ignitor wires will not affect your charging system. The stator pages are required to diagnose charging. Are you sure those wire are not just spares?

What is the problem you're having starting/charging the bike? Seems like you've been running it. If wires are clipped, that might be due to an aftermarket ignition or adapting another model of ignitor to your bike.

ok there was a problem with the bike a few days ago where the battery had died so i had to push start the bike to get home...while driving, when using the blinker the bike would backfire if i was using the throttle at the same time.....so earlier today i starting diagnosing the problem...when i unraveled some of the "aftermarket" wiring i found the wires mentioned earlier had come upart...i might have done this im not sure but i know the ignitor is def. not stock b/c the wires were spliced into the new ignitor but the colors were different.so if someone could give me an idea of how the layout of the clip that is plugged into the ignitor it would be a big help

Are we looking at the igniter or the regulator/stator circuit ???

You were backfiring because the battery was dying and the spark was weak.
If you didn't disconnect the wires and it ran before/ fix the charging system, charge the battery and ride.

im not sure to be exact....im sure the wires were connected before but while goin through the bike i think i disconnected them but that also might be a dif problem from what im having as far as the charging problem goes.

Hope Steve was able to get you fixed up. If not, post the #'s off the ignitor so somebody can figure out what model it did come off of.

Of course you only have 3 disconnected wires. The orange/white is +12V for the coils, so should be easy to find which one goes with that using a voltmeter. Guess the other two would be the grounds to the coils? Only two ways left to hook 'em up once the +12V is straightened out. Where do the wiring diagrams say the wires are going?
