Need tire size for '85 GS550E...

I need to get a new set of sneakers for my latest project, '85 GS550E.

Tires seem to be on sale everywhere so I figured now's the time to get a set.

However, I don't have a manual to tell me the OEM sizes. The ones on her currently are:

    Front - 100/90-16 (rim stamped 16-MT, 2.15)
    Rear - 130/80-18 (rim stamped 18-MT, 2.15)

Does anyone know what size tires are stock?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hey Mike,

With those rim sizes I’d go with a 100 or maybe 110 front and a 120 rear. A 130 is definitely too wide for a 2.15 rim from a functional perspective, although I’m sure some people do it anyway because they want that meaty look.

Thanks Ed - I was thinking the same, the 130 on the rear now really seems to stick over the rim too much IMO.

If you look on the fiche, original is 100/90-16 front, 110/90-18 rear.

A 120/90 rear would probably be OK, but that 130/80 is right out... this "stuff on a phat tire" disease must be stopped.

            The manual is calling for:
            F: 100/90-16 54H .............PSI -Solo 28 Dual 28
            R: 110/90-18 61H .............PSI -Solo 32 Dual 40

I just changed the rubber on my '85 es last season, and the ONLY matching set of tires I found for them was a set of avon road riders. Granted theres other options out there if you dont want matching sets.

Thanks for the info - I've been finding the same issue, not too many choices if you want matching set of tires. I may use 110 up front & 120 rears if it gets me a better price than the Avon. I believe Dunlop 501 tires can make an acceotable set also, but the price isn't any better.

I may also just mix up a couple of brands.
