    GS650/550 crash bars interchangeable?

I'm looking at someone's crash bars for sale. He's not sure they're from a 650 or a 550, but is sure they're from one of the two.

Do they mount up at the same points? Are the engine/frame connections the same? If so, I figure they would interchange.
I will gladly go search for the info myself, but I get a lot of garbage from Google and it will take days to get a real answer.

If I don't get any replies, I'll probably go ahead and buy them in a few days.

    Thanks,
    William

William, it depends on what type of crash guards you are talking about. There are the full type that bolt to the frame and go right across the front of the bike and then there are the smaller ones that just protect the ends of the motor in the case of a fall.

I bought a set of engine guards, the smaller ones that protect the generator and points cover from damage. They were from a 650 and I was able to make them fit my 550 with a few small adjustments and buying some longer bolts, etc.

A picture or further explanation would be great.

Thanks for the reply. These are full bars, D-shaped and with footpegs to boot.

I didn't really want to mention that they're on ebay, on the off chance that someone would beat me to the auction. I narrowly missed a great price on a replacement seat for my bike recently. Another forum member chumping me out of something doesn't seem like this forum's style though.

      anyway, does that seem sufficient?

      Thanks for the quick reply,
      William

Marc the picture is here for you so now delete the link.

BTW these are the same as the ones that I bought and I made them fit the 550 easily.

        Cheers

Thanks very much. I just ordered them, and he offered my money back if I can't fit them up, less shipping of course.

Is there an explanation of how to upload photos in the FAQ?

          Thanks for the help!!

William, on EBAY just right click and copy the image and then paste it in your GSR message. Other pictures you may need to put into a programme like PhotoBucket and copy them from there into your message.

Cliff of BASSCLIFF legendary status has a full explanation on his web site.
