I haven't had a pair of 29s since the mid 80's so my memory is thin. If the float bowl was there I would have a better idea if they were as advertised. It would be another indicator

Are these really smooth bore carbs?
Take a look at this auction for a set of smooth bores. Are these 29's? The throat doesn't look right to me, as well as they have a plastic cover on the choke lever.

Some pretty crappy photos there so it's hard to tell. For one thing the floats are composite, I thought VM29 floats were brass? Choke lever has a plastic coating too which is another thing I'm not sure about.Last edited by Nessism; 02-22-2010, 11:57 PM.Ed

Look like vm29s to me. Yea, most floats I've seen on 29s are brass.
Here is a good pic of what the throat of a VM26 looks like.

ED, When Rustybronco was over and we measured the carbs i had, we meausred three times to be sure they were 29s. I took a bowl off to see what they looked like inside and i believe the floats were the black composite. I cant swear to that, but thats what i recall. I know for a fact though that they were definitely 29s. I Sold them to Tejasmud and i am shipping them today ( post office was closed yesterday ), so i think he can give a definitve answer in a few days. Had the guy left the bowls on then that for sure would have been the deal sealer..If they had the square drain plug then they would have to be 29s..like the pics i sent you of the ones i had..26s dont have that plug style. One way to tell from tjhose pics is to compare the shapes of the bowl mounting surfaces too.. the 26 and 29 are totally a differeent shape..MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I had a set of VM29's that came on a bike so I'm familiar with them but no expert. Those carbs look like the real deal except for those floats and choke lever - I suspect Mikuni changed things around over the years.

they are smoothies you can tell by the holes on the intake there are 3 with a 4th with a brass ball in it the 26's only have 2 holes on the intake side
however i wouldn't buy those
smoothies are supposed to have brass floats so they have been replaced with the stock 26 floats and who knows what else has been robbed from them
steer clear and wait for another set to pop up they will

Mikuni used the same molds for the float bowls for the smoothies and the RSs.
Except no accel pump1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

They are VM29's, "BRASS" floats with 117.5 mains.
Pilots are 25s.
Jet blocks are in good condition, the needle jets are 261 0-6
Slides are 2.0, not shown but they are, this is what 29s look like from the filter side of the carburetor.
Fuel seats are 2.5
Fuel needles, are in rough shape, will replace both seats and needles. Notice ring on needle, this needs help...lol
Have not pulled the air jets, but I would guess 0.9s, and needles would be 5DL31's.
Most all this will be replaced once I call Jeff in the morning.
But, to fit them to a 700/750 16v head it will need new flanges, but about to call Ray.
Thanks a million Chuck. 29s will be a better fit for the 700, so have read.

So they are.. for some reason i thought i had seen the composite ones.. in any case i take it you are happy with the carbs then?? Like i said i didnt even know what they were till rustybronco came over. I just quickly looked inside one bowl and they didnt look too cruddy inside. Inside looks good, stinks like all get out, but yea........lol
VM29s, now the trick is getting them to mount to the 700/750 head. It will not just bolt up.
Talked with Ray, and will call Sudco tomorrow to see if they can help with some spigot flanges. If not, I'll make them. Thanks Ray.
