650gl engine screeching
Hey every Ive got a 82 GS650glz, there is a screeching noise coming from the engine. At first it only did it when it was cold and only once in a great while, but as all noises do, it has become an almost constant thing. Now if the bike is moving and the RPMs are above 2000 it screeches. If pull in the clutch is stops after the RPMs come down. At first I thought it was the oil pump going bad. I went in and replaced the oil pump and noticed the clutch was almost gone so I rebuilt that as well, just in case that was it. Now Ive got a new oil pump, rebuilt clutch and still the screeching. Ive got no idea what to do now ANY help would be amazing! Thanks!!!Tags: None

does it make the sound in nuetral above 2,000 rpm? did you swap out the complete clutch? how did the clutch bearing look? are the clutch plates all true (flat) and in spec. does it do this in nuetral? my tach screeched when the weather got cold. not anymore tho since i got it lubed up proper. when it screeches whats the temp outside?Last edited by Guest; 02-18-2010, 11:09 PM.

I bet it's the cams. It does not do it in neutral. I replaced the plates and springs the bearings all looked good. It used to only do it when it was cold outside and the bike was cold, now its all the time, temp outside and of engine doesn't make a difference.

I would be surprised if it were the cams, I just rebuilt the top side last year and the cams were good no wear. Also the bike only has 9000 or so miles on it, It sat for 15 years before I got it and restored it.

It's where the cams run in the caps.
