    Need headlight mounting help/suggestions.

Okay, here's the front end I just scored:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...T#ht_684wt_960

Now, I need to figure out what to do for illumination. I think(?) I'd like to retain the stock(ish?) look, does anyone know of headlight ears that are big enough to fit the GSXR forks (I think they're 43mm...)? SV650 brackets, maybe? Would I be better off fabbing up some brackets that mount to the trees instead?

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know if H1-type lights require more/less/similar power than the original setup? I'm looking to go in that direction.

Ideas and insight, please and thank you.

Send a PM to Greg B & ask him if he will make you a set. He is a GOOD CNC machinist for a living & likes to make stuff like this. I know he will have to do some here pretty soon for me for a couple of things we've got going on. Ray.

Have a look at Posplayr's thread on his 83 ED. He kept a stock light with a gixxer front end.
1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
      1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

Don't know how well you'll be able to see the ones I cut out when I had my '88 front end mounted. Bolted them on using the fork pinch bolts. I may still have one of them.

See the headlamp ears attached. They used to be available on e-bay, They go for about $50; If you get anything more custom the cost shoots up well over $100.

I sold these to TCK as part of a 1st Gen package.

I used my welder to expand the 37mm stock ears to go around the 43mm forks by sectioning in a small piece. If you are a good welder not that big of a deal; with my HF one it is a pita, but I'm happy with the results. I also had a machine shop modify my air collars to fit the 43mm so I look ED stock

Good luck on your build; check out mine in my signature to see how I dealt with the first gen challenges. RSU forks are a little earlier on clock mounting than the USD forks.

How long are your forks from axle center to the top of the tube?

I have never welded, so I would assume I'm probably fairly atrocious at it. My uncle is a frikkin' Mizzaster welder, so if I go that route he'll be the one I ask for help.

I like the look of the ears you posted, gonna see if I'll investigate what's on the 'bay.

In regards to the fork tubes, I don't yet have them. They're supposed to ship Monday. When they get here I'll measure and post.

Here you can see a pic of ears and how I modified it. There is a rubber grommet so it doesnt have to be perfect.

From the top of the tube to the axle center, they appear to be 735mm.
