    Chain size..1983 GS1100E

    Hey guys,

    I am getting lots of conflicting information about chain sizes. I have an 83 GS1100E. This bike is supposed to wear a 630...I think. Then I am shopping around and some places are saying that their 630 chains do not fit gs1100 ? I'm confused. I need to replace the chain sprocket set, but I was going to try to get by with just a chain for this season.
    Anyone know where to get a good deal on final drive components?

      And make the change to a 530 chain...the chain is cheaper and sprockets don't cost that much...

        Yes, the bike came with 650. Many/most people switch to 550 for economy since chain design has increased significantly since our GS bikes were first sold.

        Edit, make that 630/530...

                Some bikes require a spacer for the front sprocket. Not sure which ones.....just call Z1 and talk to them, they've done hundreds of these conversions, including mine on the 750.

                  I also got a clip style master link...
                  Total was about $170 shipped.

                  My picture also showed a full set of wheel bearings...(not need for the chain conversion)

                        Ok, one more thing....do I need the 1.25 spacers when converting to the 530 sprocket up front? Could not tell if this is a must or not.

                          The only spacer you should need is the 6mm...
