Speedometer gearing ratio question

Yo all.

I'm performing a 1990 GSXr front end swap on my GS. I would like to get a speedometer installed, but do not like the look of the GSXr guage cluster.

Does anyone know what the gear ratio for the GSXr speedometer so I can shop for a replacement, or, does anyone know where I can get a nice, plain-looking speedometer?

Ideally, I think I'd like to get the full cluster and lights in link 2 from the '86 (best bang for the buck considering the additional parts) but I don't know if the speedo is compatible to the '90 front end I'm working with.

I like the Idea of using only the speedo in link 1, and creating my own housing for it, but the seller it seems has very little idea of what he's selling. I asked what year the bike comes from, and got "i believe they fit from 93 to 98 its off of the gsxr1100w model", but that confuses me as according to Rob Wilton's website the gsxr went to electronic speedometer in '96...but I remember reading that the GSXR1100w ran from '93-96, so maybe this one could be the right one?

I dunno. Just trying to get this sorted out before another riding season has come and gone...

As I recall, all Japanese speedometers use the same internal gear ratios. It's the speedo gearing at the front wheel that needs to be matched to the size of the tire and wheel combo. As long as you have the right wheel gear, theoretically you should be able to use the GS speedo. It's just a matter of mounting the gauge cluster that's tricky.

Well, I have the GSXR speedo hub that matches the rest of the front end, so I'll try that with the GS speedo and give it a go. Wish me luck!
