Where are the coils on a 550 katana?

Hi folks, so where are the coils positioned on a 550 katana? I ask because I have a 85 16v 550 and wish to use a earlier katana tank which fouls on my coils.

If I move the coils and bracket I think I can make the tank fit. I know the two bike's frames are different but I would like to see if I can do the relocation to somewhere suzuki thought was ok.

Also if anyone has a pic of where they go on the katana I'd love to see it.

    Thanks

This all depends on getting the bike running properly again of course

Thanks for the input, I knew as much but I was just wondering where they were fitted originally by Suzuki.

According to my Haynes manual mine are supposed to be behind the battery, and I know that is wrong .

The other option so as not to move the coils is to "finesse" the underneath of the tank with a hammer I suppose.

From the looks of this schematic, the coils on the '82 GS550MZ Katana are located in the usual position, under the tank attached to the frame rails.

Here's a picture of a GS650. The coils on the 550 kat are in the same position and both bikes use the same tank.
On a 550 the coils are fitted the other way round - the HT lead comes out the front of the coil unlike the 650 where they come out of the rear.

That's a handy site, thanks, noticed people referring to it before but did not think of using it myself.

I see they are mounted the other way up from mine ie not hanging down from a bracket and there is a lot more space round the headstock for them anyway.

Gives me a few ideas on how to carry this out in a semi-factory way.

Thanks very much for the pic and info, much appreciated.

I especially like the way you used red HT leads and light coloured coils to make it easier to see what was happening
