GS1150 oil cover with extra parts?

    GS1150 oil cover with extra parts?

    I bought this 1150 oil cover for my 83 gs1100.



    My bike already has the oil cooler on it and have it plumbed to the ports next to the cover.

    I recived the cover and it also came with a small spring and a small nipple looking metal piece.

    I've read many posts about the 1150 cover and none of them ever mention these small parts I also got with the cover.

    The small spring will go all the way into the hole next to the oil filter so i don't think it would do anything if installed.

    Do i use the extra pieces of just bolt the cover on with out them?

    I'm not familiar with the 1150 covers but it looks like you have the spring and the other piece assembled backwards. The other piece probably acts as a valve to keep the cooler from draining down into the block when the engine is not running. That's about all it could function as. That or part of a thermostat to keep oil from flowing to the cooler until the engine is warm enough to need the cooler in the loop. Don't take that as gospel though. It doesn't show up on Bike Bandit schematics.

      the small spring and plunger is not GS1150 parts.
      the cover is correct but dis guard the other 2 pieces.

        dont know anything about these 1150's but it looks to me like a pressure relief valve to enable the oil to still circulate if the filter gets blocked. may be wrong, stand corrected if i am
        1978 GS1085.

          i stand by my above statement but i would like to ad...
          this may be something that a company offers to add to the 1150 cooler operations.
          a factory cooler plumbs to each side of the filter cover through large banjo's.
          with that being said i believe the added spring and plunger in the picture is not needed and should not be used unless someone with experiance using these parts can give you advice.
          the spring and plunger is not factory Suzuki GS1150 items.

            I believe you are right. They don't show up on schematics.

              Thanks for the quick response. I was also thinking they are not needed. The hole next to the oil filter goes back at least 5"-6". The spring and plunger would just slide back and forth in the tube.

                Actually, the small spring & metal part ARE for an 1150 but have NOTHING to do with the oil filter cover! Who can tell me what those 2 parts go to?!! I'll give a hint.............they go in the bottom end somewhere! Ray.

                    Ray, you are half correct. That is the shift drum detent plunger or cam stopper as Suzuki calls it. The spring looks more like a rocker shaft spring as the detent spring is much smaller and fits inside the detent plunger. It could also be the spring that you put on a shift fork shaft for a semi auto transmission. I have used the rockershaft spring for the auto's after I stretch them out a little. I'll let this error slide since you needed sleep. Dar

                        Sorry guys, it does look like a rocker shaft spring. I had just come off an 18 hour shift at work & was just beat. Ray.
