    Stripping swingarm coating

    Hi Gang,
    New here to the site.
I want the nice aluminum color for my 82 GS1100 swingarm. I assume it is anodized or coated some other way. Anyone have experience in how to strip it off? I think battery acid took mine off in a few spots and it looks great there. I tried a wire wheel which was tough but worked very slowly and left the arm real rough.
    Thanks in advance!
    Pete

Spray on oven cleaner. It will turn bare aluminum black but even that will polish up nicely. I did it to mine.

Lacquer thinner. Isn't lacquer was the coating is anyway?

Even paint remover won't touch the coating on the aluminum swingarms. Easy-Off makes quick work of it.

Oven cleaner! Great idea guys and my wife happens to be grocery shopping today. Thanks for the advice and Cliff, thanks for the warm welcome! Great site you have there with tons of info. I do have a confession to make. My bike is a Honda CB1100F that I'm putting the GS swingarm on because the arm fits and is trick. Only Suzuki I have is a 78 RM400 but some day I'd love to do a Wes Cooley/ Yoshimra replica.
