    motor model identification

I have a 1981 gs750LX. The motor that I have on it is not the original, and slightly different. The valve cover, for one, is not the same. Anyway, I'm trying to figure out the year and model. The number on the right side of the engine case is GS75X-176079. Can help me here?

80/81/82 750 engines are the same except for the number of VC bolts.
the above listed engines is all that will fit your chassis in the 750cc class.
    80/81 750 has a 20 bolt VC.
    82 750 has a 24 bolt VC.

I suppose that I have the 82 motor. 24 bolts. When ordering parts does it matter which model 82 or are do the letters pertain to the frame. ex. l or e.

        for engine parts order "1982"
the only real difference i'm aware of is the VC gasket.
for the chassis...what ever year the title says.
