Any good reason I can't change the direction of the rear axle?

    Any good reason I can't change the direction of the rear axle?

    You know...so the nut is on the left side?

    You can use it both ways round.
    79 GS1000S
    79 GS1000S (another one)
    80 GSX750
    80 GS550
    80 CB650 cafe racer
    75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
    75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

            NOT SO FAST!!! I didnt realise the reliefs in the mufflers on my 77 750 were different and installed the axle with the nut on the left and wore a hole in the can as the swingrm moved up and down. If you have 4 into 1 on the right side of the bike it wont matter.. If you have stock then check to be sure the axle doesnt rub on the muffler.

            I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

              Ah ha....Chuck, exactly my problem with the nut to the right.

              I have a 4 into 1 and with the nut on the right it was wearing into my muffler...
              Now, with the nut on the left, all is good...

                YUP...My 78 has the 4 into 1 R/C setup ( see my album) and i have to do the same thing. My 77 has the stock and i got to have the nut on the right.. I took my mig welder and welded the hole in the can shut and did some fancy grinding and luckily it is barely noticeable now.

                      When i got the Yosh pipe for my '83, the installation instructions directed you to switch the axle so the nut would not hit the back of the can....
