    82 GS450 t transmission problem

I just got an 82 450 t. When shifting from 1st - 2nd it slips out of 2nd and goes into 3rd. Sometimes it stays in 2nd briefly before slipping out. Any ideas of what is wrong, and how hard would this be to fix? Other than this problem its a good bike...Thanks

How many miles are on the bike? Could be clutch out of adjustment, dogs in the tranny, or worn gears.

2nd to 3rd? That's weird. It usually slips into neutral.
Maybe bent shifter forks or worn dogs.
Have you tried to adjust the clutch cable?

The bike has 30k miles, and the clutch cable is adjusted far out on both the lever and at the trans.

It may be time to pull the motor and have a look inside the transmission.

Is there play at the clutch lever?
