    GS450 Airbox removal

    Hello,
    Any trick to get the airbox out? I unscrewed it and took out the battery and was able to loosen it off the carb intake, but how do you get it out of the bike? Theres a seem cutting the box in half, is their a way to separate it with out damaging it?

    I have a book on my 450. I'll look in and see how they shouldcome out.

      It won't come out without moving the engine on my model ('80)

        I just checked the book and all it shows is changing the filter.
        I didnt do it I swear !!

            i've tried everything to remove one on a 81, looks to me you have to remove engine! terrylee

              Definitely need to take the engine out on the smaller 250.
              It's smoke that make electronic components work.
              Every time I've let the smoke out by mistake, they never work again.
              '80 GS250T... long gone... And back!

                Remove the carbs, then remove the clutch cover and clutch cable. You can then remove the airbox in one piece.

                  i removed the boots going from the airbox to the carbs. lots of twisting and turning (and swearing), and after 20 or so minutes, I was able to take it out (or put it back in...I did that both times). Either way its a PITA

                  This was after I removed everything (electronics tray, battery, etc.) from that vicinity. This is on an '83, so idk how different it is...

                          if i take the airbox off, what about the tube that goes from the airbox to the top of the engine? is their any bad effect from taking that off? tahnks,

                            Nope, no problem. It's part of the EPA emissions regulations. If you leave it off, you may get some residule oil vapors that will muck up the top of the cases over time. Most get a little filter to attach to the breather on the engine.
