    Acewell Speedo's

The 750ES running the GSXR front wheel has the stock speedo all over the place. Tach & all other bits work ok.

Today I temp fitted a Sigma 906 Bicycle computer - result is an accurate speedo but it's more junk on the dash....

Has anyone tried an Acewell speedo & how did it work out?

Particularly interested in if the fuel gauge worked out well for you or not... If you had the model with engine temp/gear position - how did they work out? Also wonder if the stock 83750 Tach output will drive the acewell tach ok.

Alternative I've seen but the Acewell's seem better:

Any other suggestions? Particularly looking for a magnet type sensing speedo with adjustable wheel size input.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Been looking at the Acewell also.

That, or the Veypor VR2. It has an add on for turn indicators and dummy lights also, but I like it for the data logging features. Be fun to play with.

I would keep the stock cluster, and possibly mount a VR2 between the bars, minus the indicators.

You watch Ed, Im still working on getting the 1150 wheel to fit on the front. Big lathe has been booked, and still waiting.

Dan why didnt you use the GSXR speedo? Or would it not work since you're using a bit more modern wheels? Im using first gen wheels (look just like the stock GS pattern but obviously wider and fitted with radials..) and the GSXR speedo drive.. I'll have to find a new one because mine is buggered but this is what I was told will work.. Is your issue a cable problem? Or did the model you took the wheels from use an electronic speedo? If you're able to use a gear drive speedo, you might try using one from a first gen Gixxer, the gear drive ratio SHOULD be the same, but I know its different from the GS...

I have been looking at the speedometers from these guys:
Whether you have a motorcycle, utility vehicle, boat or golf cart, we provide a wide range of parts and accessories for any vehicle!

Some of them seem rather pricey, others, not so much. I have no input in regards to quality...

Thanks for links. I haven't gone with a GSXR one mostly because I don't have the right speedo drive or the speedo & there didn't seem to be much available on Ebay.
For a similar price I could prob get one of these little blighters which should fit right where I want it...

Am in two minds as to whether to go for round or square.... I much prefer the look of the round but I think the square will prob fit better on the bike & be easier to mount with what I have (custom ignition / speedo mount plate).

I have an Acewell on the bike. It's at best OK - nothing special. The digital tach has never worked right. I might pick up a gauge cluster from a newer bike and wire in the gauges to pick up the signal from the coils for RPM and front sprocket RPMs for the speedo. Those http://www.kosonorthamerica.com/ gauges look nice too.

PJ how are you picking up signal? 83750 has electronic tach so I'm thinking I can prob use that input rather than winding a lead round a plug wire

Tried wrapping the tach wire around a spark plug lead and the tach bounced all around. The stock tach works really well so now I'm thinking of getting one of these to replace the stock speedometer while using the stock GS1000 instrument cluster.

Koso supplies units to Bimota for some of their bikes. The RX-2N is the unit on at least one of their bikes. Quality's probably not an issue, at least one that unit. Better not be, for $400.

This one is a possibility for me as an alternative to the Acewell. I don't think I want to drop $400 on one of the others...

I did think about getting separate gauges for speed, tach & fuel but think that might be too busy up there...

Anyone know if the KOSO units come in from Canada? That's where they are based.... Just wondering if there is a big duty hit to add onto their parts & freight price.

Have emailed them but nothing back yet.

They have four US distributors, according to their site. I don't think there will be any extra duties. I went through the ordering process on their website, up to payment information, and didn't see anything. Shipping is around 20 bucks for ground, which doesn't seem terrible.

Here's what I'm replacing my stockers with, eventually. Probably Christmas time. And the one I'm looking at only goes to 10k.

I went that far too..., it's not always themvthar charge you. Sometimes the freight company hit you later on....
