    Gear Selector Display

The digital gear display on my 750 has stopped showing 2nd gear?

Small issue I know - any ideas?

more than likely just the bulb

may be the wire but I doubts it.

If it doesn't show other gears such as 3, 5 etc, then it will be the display.

If other gears show correctly, then the switch or wiring is faulty.

Bulb I would think... in the cluster there is a row of them that light the numbers in my experience.

It's not bulbs, according to the first post, it's the digital version.. (LED)

            edit:

over here in the UK, the 550's used the 6 separate bulbs, and the 750's had a single digital display.

I've never seen a "digital version" on a 750 yet.
I have an 83750ES which is the last of them over here (although he might go later being in England) & it's bulbs....

              I guess more info needed.

Check the electrical contacts on the gear selector. Remove the front sprocket cover, it's buried in there.

Be careful removing it, there are spring-loaded pieces.

                  Hi,

If your "digital" gear indicator is like mine, it has bulbs behind a red translucent number. If your trouble is not at the switch (near the shifter) or in the wiring, it must be a bad bulb or a bad connection to the bulb (socket) in the gauge cluster itself. #158 or #194 bulbs should work. I might have a few in a can in my garage if you need one. Let me know.

Are they just bulbs - seem like an old 70s Casio to me! Could understand it being bulbs if the display moved up & down, but the numbers change in the same place

Oops, I just noticed that you're across the pond. Perhaps the gauge cluster is different, or do you have an aftermarket instrument cluster?

If the display has different numbers that are "stacked", then there could be an issue with an IC somewhere.

My 550 has separate numbers 1 - 6 which run across the panel, and light up individually.

The 750 (at least in the UK) has one single display, like a large 7 segment red LED.

Wish I had 2 pics to show

                            Hi Mr. bod,

Here's a shot of my instruments...

The arrow points to a row of numbers under "Gear Position". Each number has its own bulb. Is this similar to yours?

A very few early UK 750s had the digital gear indicator which was essentially pinched off the GTs. Most ended up showing you as having selected gear number 8 after a while.
Most 750s and early 550s had the bulb set up, fairly low down on the instrument panel - this panel was a single unit affair inside a black console that resembled an 8 on its side. Late 550s had a 3 piece panel. Speedo, tacho and a I shaped piece in the middle with the idiot lights. At the top of the I is the gear indicator. From my old '82 EZ:
