gs 700 es brakes couple of q's

    1. so i have rebuilt the calipers on the front of my gs700 but it seems the left caliper is still hanging just slightly. anyone got any ideas?

The calper was cleared of any and all debris, the walls of the cylinder were cleaned up not pits no rust nothing

the piston was also cleaned no pits rust, nothing.

New seals were installed. one on the left and one on the right.

erverything went back together .... i assume the right way.

    2. also the right caliper seems to move as i apply brake pressure, as though the slides have slack in them. what kind of problem is this?

    3. there seems to be not enough tension in the brake lever when brakes are applied. Spongy. now the lines are who knows how old. but do any of these other problems seem related. before i took apart the calipers there was a fair amount of pressure on the lever. so one might assume the lines were ok before i started this disaster of a repair.

does the wheel rotate freely? the pads will drag a little, but should not be grabbing

this is normal, the caliper floats so the inboard pad may also engage

you may still have air in the lines, try re-bleeding, also, if they're the stock rubber lines you're supposed to change them every 2 yrs.(not that anyone does) go to braided stainless lines when you can

      1. the wheel doesn't spin freely like a bicycle tire but it does turn fairly easily..but you can hear noise form the left side like the pads are making contact with the rotor.

      2. cool.

      3. i did bleed them a considerable amount, but hey what's $2 worth of fluid when you are talking safety. where can i get a reasonably priced set of braided lines... bike bandit lists the rubber replacement lines at about $30 a piece. being as there are five lines total, and i would guess braided are more costly than rubber. regardless of cost, who has them?

They should make contact with the rotor, when you take it out for a spin, carefully check the temp as compared to the other side, you might want to do this before you've used the brake much, if at all

Mine were made for me and I don't remember by whom, they're around $100 per wheel, some of these other guys could probably help with a source.....

          1. Did you bleed the anti-dive units?

          2. Is the left caliper moving freely when you apply the brakes?

no i didn't bleed the antidive units.... will do that tomorrow. when brakes are applied both calipers grab the disc.

Since you didn't bleed the anti-dives, you've probably got air in that line (WILL make it mushy). Make sure the left caliper is floating and not hung up.
