Help! I can't get the clutch adjusted!

I got new switch gear for my '82 Gs650GL (including left and right controls and levers.) and installed it without any difficulty but now if I start the bike and put it in 1st while on the center stand the back wheel turns. (I had never put it in gear while on the center stand before the new controls so I can't say if it did this before.) I cant adjust it so that it does not "engage". Any help would be appreciated.

There is always some friction. Can you easily stop the wheel with your hand?

I can see it now, (wizzzzzzzzzzz AHHHHHHHH my hand!!!!!!) I would suggest a light application of rear brake.
it is normal for the wheel to turn slowly while running on the centerstand due to the clutch being a wet type, it will act like a torque converter for a automatic transmission, the friction disc spin causing the oil to spin, the oil in turn causes the clutch steel disc to spin turning the gears and making the wheel turn, if the wheel turns pretty slow ignore it, it is normal, if it turns faster, apply the rear brake and if it affects the idle, or kills the bike you have a problem.

Thanks for the help, It is a little more than a friction turn. I took it out for a ride and the clutch was slipping badly, really really really badly. I think I may need to replace the cable and try again.
