Petcock for GS850 (1980)
It looks like someone replaced the petcock with a home-made-ish deal. I take it that this is a bad idea since I have fuel all over carb #2. Any ideas on where to get one cheap. I just bought a flasher unit for $40 ouch!Tags: None

fuel in carb 2??
sounds like they may have left the vaccum tube off...my bike that came with a homemade job was that way...ran real rough with the open hole into the #2 carb. A quick strip down and cleaning fixed the original petcock valve and I took off the homemade crap. I would suggest checking local cycle salvage yards, I think they are about 20 bucks for most here in Boise.

Salvage hard hunt
Not much for salvage yards here in Maryland. Any idea on a yard that would handle mail order on a petcock?

pingle petcock
In fact would I be better off just getting a pingle petcock?
The piece of crap petcock I have unscrews like a wingnut to let fuel through.

I don't have experience with pingle...I just stripped down and cleaned my old petcock (81 GS750). The last owner had problems, and just added a bit of hose, and another valve to shut it off...set the original to prime and then let it flow.
I haven't looked too much for aftermarket/replacement petcocks. I'll call the local salvage yard and ask about GS petcocks during lunch. Maybe I can pick one up and send it to you.

I just installed a pingel on my 1100e. Flow shuts off the way it's supposed to and the valve action is effortless. I'm impressed with it, that's for sure.
