    Carb rebuild help

I'm rebuilding the Mikuni carb from my GS650F for the first time. All the phillips screws are stripping out when I remove them (even with the perfrect size screwdriver).... I'm having to dremel slots in the heads and take them out with a flat screwdriver... does everyone else have this problem? I'm going to replace them with allen heads...

Some of my o-rings seem to be in ok condition, others are dry and cracked and a few are missing. I'm thinking of replacing all of them. Do I have to order them from a Suzuki dealer, or can I get them from somewhere else?

Is white grease good to use on the o-rings when putting it back together?

Rober Barr, felllow gser on this site, sells o-ring sets very reasonable. Are you using the carb cleaning series, also on this site, for a guide? If not I highly recommend it. Good luck.

      Contact Robert Barr.

Contact Robert Barr to get the O-rings. I bought a set off him from E-bay. I used the Yamaha carb cleaner to dip them. My bike runs excelent now.

I hear tell that the dip you get with the pan is too harsh and will remain active in the carbs after the rebuild.

Robert turned me on to this site so you should be abble to contact him through the member list.

Make sure you don't break any float posts. Use something to support the opposite side while you press the pin out. Don't tap them out. Repeated taping on the pin will eventually snap one or more of your posts. (Your screwed at that point) Even if you dont snap anything the end of the pin will get disfigured and harder to remove.

read the tips and tricks section before removing the air screws and use a impact screw driver bit fit into a socket to do any further phillips head screw removal/installation.

Everybody seams to have trouble with the air screws, I would guess the factory put some kind of thread lock on them. Try to heat them up with a small propane torch to break the bond.
