Mikuni's or Keihin's... any good advise ??

Waabaa ....
I am thinking about changing the carbs on my gs1000 from 29 mikuni smoothbores to , 35mm CR Keihin's. I have a 4 into 1 pipe and some porting done to the head. I know the 29's are a good choice but there a little worn. Can anyone tell me if the keihins are a step up ?

You'll have a tough time matching the ports to the 35s.

The Keihins are a great carb for racing, but for road use expect problems. They don't tick-over very well (if at all!) so you have to keep blipping the throttle at standstill.
They are also capable of flowing a whole lot more fuel than the mikunis, your GS1000 may not be capable of using the flow unless the head has been extensively ported/gas-flowed. And then you have the problem of mounting them as Billy Ricks says.

not sure on the 35mms but crs generally don't have idle circuit .it means you have to idle on the needle. most don't like idling below 2000rpm. anyhow if you want to sell 29mms let me know.

Appreciate all the advice.... I really don't want a bad idle... I'm a street /hywy rider. Maybe i'll take the plunge for new 36 or 38 mm RS mikuni's.

Any one have any ideas on the best size for the GS,,
I have 1085 wiescos, middle of the road porting, 5 angle valve job, pipe and 108 - 109 degreed stock cams.

i would go with the 36mm. too big on the carbs will kill your torque great for racing pain in the *&%# for road riding

say, Steve and Billy, how about Moto going to a head from a 80 or 81, 1000G it has larger ports, (for cv carbs) and I am pretty sure it will bolt right up.

I don't know of any differance in chamber shape or size, but I have looked at a 78 E in the bone yard and it's ports where quite a bit smaller than my ports on my G.

yes mr focus you right the later gs 1000 head is heaps easier to fit big uns to .on the 78 manifolds are tiny and you can only go up to 29mm without major work.... ozman
