    )%$#%$ Stator Cover!

    Ok,
Went out and got the good ole' impact driver, got the screws out....but I can't take the cover off (or put it back on for that matter) because of the wires that run into the cover from the starter comaprtment. Any ideas?

Pop off the cover over the starter, and the cover over the front sprocket. You should be able to get enough slack to take it off.

      First order of business.

Get a bottle of BLUE Loctite or similar thread locker....colour is VERY important.

Disconnect the stator wires under the frame, near your side cover.

      Remove starter cover (two bolts)

Get a piece or cardboard or a carton and punch a line of holes in it.

Pick a specific place on the stator cover and remove the bolts sequentially, putting each bolt in the cardboard, sequentially.

Loosen the wires from the stator, starting where the disconnection was done, then back to the starter.

Lift the wires from around the starter.

Pull the stator cover (pull it cleanly and NEVER, NEVER try to pry it off)

As it comes loose, feed the wire through the slot and it comes off very easily.

Presuming you are replacing the stator itself, clean it off well, paying special attention to the threads .

Reassemble with a drop or two of Loctite on each bolt and use an impact driver.

This might be a good time to replace the bolts with allen head, much easier to work with and gives it a differant look
