82 GS1100GK differential drain plug leaking

My bike sat up for several months before I got it. I changed the hypoid gear oil before riding it and have been fighting a leak around the drain plug ever since. I installed the original crush washer, then new gaskets from BikeBandit & even a fiber washer from the plumbing aisle. Each time I torqued the plug per factory specs. I ride to and from work a day or so and then I start seeing an oily mess. :x What works? I can't stand oil leaks! Is it possible the plug has a problem that I can't see?

Check the drive housing where the gasket is supposed to seal. Maybe it is damaged with a scratch/gouge across the surface of it.

You need to ride with us on the 4th and the 5th ... check the GS meeting place forum for the 2nd Fall Hill Country ride!! 8)

The final drive on my 1000g was leaking when I acquired the bike, but after a gasket change it stopped. Is your drain plug cross-threaded?? 8)

Try winding some teflon tape on the thread of the bolt. That usually works.
