Have you tried to swap the wires?

Have you tried to swap the wires? I have been having this same problem for a while now. Finnaly I figured out that when I switched the wires between #2 and #3 the problem moved to the #3 cylinder. You may have already figured this out, but the #2 and #3 fire at the same time, and you can change the wires around on them.

It also seems I have the wrong plugs and wires on my bike. I'll be fixing that problem today, and see what happens. You may not need new wires. Just trim them back a little and get new NGK 5k ohm plug caps. If I had stayed with the original wires, I would have solved this by now I think.

Oh yea. Figure out if the petcock is bad as well. A crank case full O gas. (kinda Scary!)

      Ilpo,

Could you tell us were we could pick up a repair kit?

"In the long run this "prime" trick with plugging the vacuum hose is not good."

i am not suggesting "plugging" as a permanent repair!!! Read carefully, says in the first reply to "check results" second reply says to "eliminate possibilities"
We are currently in a diagnostic mode! Have not yet determined what the problem is. I don't suggest repair or replace parts if it isn't broken. Prove its broken first. Diagnoses is the art of; propose a theory, conceive test to prove or disprove theory, check results, more theory, etc

no sweat ... just analyze & fix the problem in peace, I won't trouble anymore

btw, cheap fuel petcock repair kits can be found even in the cold and snowy finland from ordinary mc accessory shops. unfortunately I didn't find the manufacturer'' name but I recall it was some familiar gasket company (vesrah ??). Google found these leads:

          hope this helps!

sorry, didn't mean to make it sound so strong. I just view troubleshooting as a 1 step ata time procedure. See what the results are and go to the next step.

guys, thanks for all the suggestions. I will be trying them in turn as soon as I have a chance. Unfortunately, family illness will delay any experimentation for a while. Thanks again, and will give you an update as soon as i have one.

Alright fellas, had a chance to try some of the ideas out. Pulled the vacuum while the petcock was in the "on" position....guess what, steady drip of gas coming out of the vacuum nipple on the petcock. Plugged the lines like everyone suggested, switched to prime and gave it a spin. The bike ran perfectly, #2 cyclinder lit up right away. So the petcock is bad....my question now. I've done some searching on ebay and I'm finding petcocks for around $40-45 and repair kits for $19. Anyone have any experience with the repair kits, do they last? Thanks.

                  Repair kits are good.

The repair kits are good. I have not had a problem with mine. My lever was hard to turn, and is still a little hard. If yours is dificult it may be time for a new one.
