Quick question - top triple swap

I want to swap the top triple on my '83 750E to one that accepts standard handlebars. Does anyone know which years are compatable (37mm fork tubes?), if the guage mounting holes will line up, and if I should expect problems with the air holes not matching up after the swap?

    Something like this?

    Or this?

    Thanks,

    Q!

I don't know what bars you have but if you have clip ons and want regular bars all you have to do is drill your top triple clamp and install bar mounts.

When I did this I also had to get longer throttle cables

Thanks for the heads up. Any info on a source? The only mounts I could find online were between $120 and $150 - at these prices, I could buy a top-end set of aftermarket clipons and forego the swap.

A triple swap for $15 bucks still looks like the way to go....

I bought bar mounts just like thesehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2444147482

Paid very little for them. I cut the bolt off then drilled it out and put a nut and bolt through and mounted it on the top triple clamp. It was a little work but worked out.

You should be able to find better ones on ebay just keep searching.

Thanks, Gerry - I'll keep an eye out.

Lynn - what's the diameter of the fork clamps on that triple, and what's the sidewall thickness of the clamps?

Anyone know if the '82 and '83 models had the same size forks?

            Thanks,

Q, I don't know for sure if the 82 and 83 forks are the same, but the part #'s for fork seals are different. So I would guess that they are different diameters. If your fork tubes are 37mm then you should be able to use a top triple clamp off a 80 to 82 1100. They have 37mm tubes also, at least my 81 does. Same as my 84 1150es.
              Doze.

The '83 750e/es and '85 700e/es have larger fork tube diameters, but I don't have the specs handy.

                PS. More info... '82 750 = 35mm
                '83 750 = 37mm

The '83 750 that was featured in the power of the Poconos just had the stock risers removed and clamps threaded into the stock triple where the bolts for the risers are. That guy used some Maico clamps. They even were the right thread size. These would be perfect, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2445167799. Just replace the bolts with studs and you might have to drill and tap the clamp to fit.
