    WANTED: oil cooler

I would like to install an oil cooler on my 81 1100e.
I haven't been able to find a kit for sale so it appears I'll have to build my own.
From what I can tell I need a filter cover from an 1150 for starters. Do these have the inlet and outlet fittings to the cooler or do I use the ports on the engine block?
    What size hoses and fittings?
I would really appreciate some detailed info on this. I am searching the forum but not finding anything.
I also want to run lines for additional lubrication to the top end and it seems it would be smart to do both jobs at the same time.

Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide

In order to use the cooler properly you will need an 1150 filter cover. You ahve the first part mastered.

Next, use the outlets on either side of the filter.

As far as the additional plumbing for the top end - that is entirely up to you. These kits were originally developed for use with oversized studs. (The larger stud restricts the flow of oil to the top end). They have since filtered down to where quite a few people now install them. Do they do anything on a stock motor? Do hood scoops and spoilers work on street cars?. But they do look cool.

I suggest you look into an oil thermostat also to help in warming the engine up and to better control oil temp.

I don't know if it could be fitted to use or use parts of it in any way but here is a new one on auction that may be of help.

For a very effective oil cooler with a thermostat already built in, check into an 86-92 Mazda RX-7 cooler. They are a long, flat cooler and should be pretty cheap at the local import junkyard. All you will need is a mounting system of some kind and some hoses made up with the proper adapters for each end.
