Engine side covers for 82' GS1100E. Will any others fit?

I've been on a quest to find a stator cover and the signal generator cover for a 82' GS1100E and have had absolutely no luck finding some in any better shape than the ones I have. Are there any other engines that have the same side covers?

When you say they are in bad shape, what do you mean? The finish is peeling/flaking/coming off? Or they are all ground up from crashing?

Re-finishing them is possible and it saves finding a new set. Bead blast them and either paint, powdercoat or anodize them and they will look new.

The "80" thru "82" 1100 "E" covers are the same, The "83" are black. For the trouble & aggrivation, I'd think new. Used ones, without stains, pitting, clearcoat flakeing off may be a problem to find. New may cost a littil bit more, but you know where to get them, & they will be new.

Any idea what type of shop would provide bead blasting and anodizing??

To find a shop that can blast pieces, etc. you need to look in the yellow pages under "coatings" or "plating", that sort of thing. Once you have found a few, call them and ask about the bead blasting. Many plating shops don't do the blasting, but they all have contacts that do it for them. Call a few shops and explain what you need. A lot of shops will do lunchtime jobs for cash really cheap. I found a local shop that would do a set of RD400 wheels and two cylinder barrels for less than $50 CDN. Can't beat that...

Note that you do NOT want to _sand_ blast aluminum pieces, the sand is too aggressive and will remove the aluminum, as well as the suface finish. Glass beads, walnut shells, and plastic media are all OK to use on the soft metals.

They are a scratched up from the bike going down. I just bought it a couple of months ago and am just going to give it a good clean up and tune up and some minor performance mods (jetting and exhaust). The guy I bought it from had put engine guards on it but obviously not soon enough. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash on this bike and was looking for some used sidecovers but not having much luck finding any in better shape that the ones I already have. I'll just keep looking and hopefully will come across some one of these days.
